Ukraine requests UN emergency Security Council meeting
Kyiv requested the session following recent Russian attacks, including the use of an intermediate-range ballistic missile, Sybiha said. He emphasized that Moscow’s actions constitute “flagrant breaches of the UN Charter” and called on Security Council members to unite in demanding an end to the aggression, protection for civilians, and continued support for Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Sybiha added, "Russian attacks undermine international security and peace efforts by the United States, European states, and other partners." He urged the global community to "act now" to increase pressure on Russia, ensure accountability, and restore lasting peace.
Russia claimed the strikes were retaliation for a Ukrainian attack on President Vladimir Putin’s residence in Novgorod in late December 2025. Kyiv denied any such attack and said the Security Council meeting was requested after Russia targeted Ukraine with an Oreshnik-type missile.
