Putin Dismisses US Pressure on India-Russia Relations as Ineffective
Speaking during a Q&A session with international media leaders at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin said that efforts to pressure India—particularly regarding its ties with Moscow—would not succeed. He argued that applying pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who leads a nation of over 1.5 billion people, is ultimately “futile.”
According to reports, Putin emphasized that coercive diplomacy tends to damage international relationships regardless of which side applies it, while noting that India’s relationship with Russia remains stable. He added that no significant negative impact has been observed in bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
He further described India as a reliable partner, stating that economic and strategic ties continue to strengthen. Putin also praised India’s economic performance, attributing its growth to consistent policy efforts under Modi’s leadership rather than external factors.
The Russian president also noted that India’s engagement with multiple global partners, including the United States, does not undermine its relationship with Russia. He characterized India as a major global power with a rapidly expanding economy and one of the world’s largest democratic systems, arguing that its independent foreign policy naturally involves maintaining diversified international relations.
