Polish FM accuses Putin of ridiculing Trump

(MENAFN) Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of ridiculing U.S. President Donald Trump’s attempts to broker peace, following a wave of Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine.

In a message posted on X, Sikorski responded to the latest Russian strikes, which targeted Ukrainian drone manufacturing facilities, an airfield, and a refinery. Moscow described the assault as retaliation for what it called “terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime.” The Polish minister said that part of the Polish embassy compound in Kiev was damaged during the attacks.

”President Trump, Putin is mocking your peace efforts. Please restore supplies of anti-aircraft ammunition to Ukraine and impose tough new sanctions on the aggressor,” Sikorski wrote.

Ukrainian military sources stated that over 330 drones were launched, making it the largest drone barrage since the conflict began. Combined with missile strikes, the total number of projectiles reached around 550, according to a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Air Force.

Russia maintains that it only targets military objectives and attributes damage to civilian infrastructure to Ukrainian air defenses or claims that Kiev often positions military assets near civilian structures.

Amid these developments, the U.S. has temporarily scaled back certain arms shipments to Ukraine in an effort to preserve its own military stockpiles. President Trump clarified that the aid flow had not been completely halted and disclosed that he recently spoke with Putin. Trump described the conversation as unproductive.

Ukraine and its allies, including Poland, continue to urge the U.S. to ramp up sanctions on Russia and resume full-scale weapons deliveries. They argue that continued American support is crucial for Ukraine’s defense, even as budgetary concerns weigh heavily in Washington.

One of the major demands from Kiev and its Western partners is that Russia agree to an unconditional one-month ceasefire. Moscow has firmly rejected the idea, calling it a ploy to give Ukrainian forces time to regroup and reorganize.
