Macron Signals Steps to Restart Talks with Putin
"It is being prepared, and so discussions are taking place at a technical level," Macron told reporters during a visit to northeastern France, according to reports.
"I think it would be useful, but I don't think Russia is currently willing to conclude a peace agreement (with Ukraine) in the coming days or weeks," he added.
Macron stressed that engaging with the Kremlin remains essential for negotiating security guarantees once the conflict ends.
"In this context, it is important that Europeans restore their own channels of discussion," he said, as stated by reports.
The French leader also reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting Ukraine, describing Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure as "intolerable" and indicative of a lack of "genuine willingness" to seek peace.
