Zelenskyy Reportedly Sends Summit Offer to Putin via Abramovich
Sources familiar with the matter said the request was made during Abramovich’s visit to Kyiv last month. The reported move was intended to signal Ukraine’s willingness to pursue direct negotiations with Moscow as diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire continue.
According to reports, Ukrainian officials sought to demonstrate their commitment to advancing peace talks despite international attention increasingly shifting toward tensions and conflicts elsewhere in the region.
Putin later revealed that he had met with “one of the representatives of our business circles” following that individual’s trip to Kyiv on May 21. Referring to the businessman as “this, shall we say, colleague,” the Russian president said he conveyed his view that a meeting with Zelenskyy would serve no purpose.
The Russian leader also stressed that the businessman was not acting in any official governmental role.
According to reports, Zelenskyy’s office declined to comment on the matter, while neither the Kremlin nor representatives for Abramovich immediately responded to requests for statements.
Abramovich has been involved in mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine since the early stages of the conflict in 2022. He also played a role in facilitating negotiations that led to the Black Sea grain export arrangement later that year, according to reports.
