Putin Claims Russian Forces Hold Upper Hand in Ukraine Conflict
During a televised meeting from the Kremlin, Putin argued that Russian troops are steadily making gains and alleged that Ukraine has been unable to stop their advance, accusing Kyiv of relying on what he described as “terrorist methods.”
“Our troops maintain a strategic advantage, confidently advancing, and no amount of shelling or drone strikes will change this situation,” he said.
The Russian leader reiterated previous claims regarding territorial control, stating that Russia has secured full control of the Luhansk region and holds large portions of the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
According to Putin, Russian forces have recently taken control of approximately 2,440 square kilometers (942 square miles) of territory and continue to make progress along multiple sections of the front line. He said current battlefield trends are developing in Russia’s favor.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has presented a different assessment of the situation. Earlier this week, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said Ukrainian troops had recaptured more than 600 square kilometers (232 square miles) of territory since the beginning of the year.
The contrasting claims could not be independently verified, and fighting continues across several regions as both sides report ongoing military gains.
