Russian Attacks Wound 8 in Ukraine; Yandex Data Center Hit

(MENAFN) Russian attacks injured eight people, two of them children, in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy regions, Ukrainian authorities said Sunday, as Moscow and Kyiv traded strikes through the night.

In Dnipropetrovsk, six people were wounded, including the two children. Apartment buildings, warehouses, vehicles and a fire station were damaged in the city of Dnipro and several nearby communities. In Sumy, a Russian drone hit an emergency medical vehicle, injuring the driver and a paramedic, the regional military administration said on Telegram.

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia sent 116 attack drones overnight and that air defenses downed or suppressed 94 of them.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian forces also hit a five-story apartment block in Slovyansk, wiping out an entire section of the building. He warned that people could still be trapped in the rubble. Over the past week, he said, Russia fired 1,450 aerial bombs, 75 missiles of various types and more than 1,640 attack drones at Ukraine.

Zelenskyy said Kyiv would keep coordinating with its partners and expected talks with EU leaders.

“The real cause of the war in Europe is Russia and Russia alone,” he wrote on X. “It is possible to stop strikes on energy infrastructure as early as today, but (Russian President Vladimir) Putin does not want to do so.”

He said Ukraine would be prepared to stop attacking Russian oil refineries if Moscow ended its strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

“Any de-escalation steps must be reciprocal and backed by real guarantees,” he stressed.

Attacks on Russia

In the Russian city of Vladimir, a Ukrainian drone struck a Yandex data center, the third hit on the company’s data centers in a week. Yandex said operations at the facility were completely halted, its platform was running in emergency mode, and communication channels with technical support might be unstable.

“The Yandex Cloud team is working to restore service operations,” it said.

In Sochi, debris from a Ukrainian drone landed on the airport grounds and started a fire in an administrative building, the Krasnodar regional operational headquarters said on Telegram. Debris also fell on residential areas and hotel grounds, damaging the roof of a private home and igniting a fire at another building, authorities said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed it intercepted or destroyed 479 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over Russian territory, annexed Crimea and the Black Sea. It also said Russian forces hit a data center in Odesa and a dry-cargo vessel at the port of Chornomorsk that it alleged had delivered military-related cargo.

Neither side’s claims could be independently verified, as the war makes confirmation difficult.
